Our Father Knows Best
A Devotional from Book of Psalms Psalm 65 (KJV)

Psalm 65 is a beautiful reminder that our Heavenly Father knows exactly what His children need. Long before we ask, He has already prepared the answer. Long before we see the provision, He has already set it in motion.

David begins the psalm by declaring that praise belongs to God because He hears prayer:

“O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.”
— Psalm 65:2 (KJV)

What a comfort this is. We do not pray to a distant or indifferent God. We pray to a Father who listens. Every whisper, every cry, every quiet prayer in the night reaches His ears. Nothing escapes His notice.

The psalm continues by reminding us that God forgives our sins and draws us near to Himself:

“Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee.”
— Psalm 65:4 (KJV)

It is God who brings us close. Through His mercy and grace, He invites us into His presence. Just as a loving father draws his child near, our Heavenly Father welcomes us with open arms.

David then turns our attention to God’s power over creation. The same God who answers prayer also:
• Establishes the mountains by His strength (v.6)
• Still the roaring seas and waves (v.7)
• Waters the earth and prepares the grain (v.9)

Every sunrise, every drop of rain, every harvest from the soil is evidence that our Father is caring for His creation.

And if He carefully tends the fields and waters the earth, how much more will He care for His children?

Psalm 65 ends with a picture of overflowing abundance:

“Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.”
— Psalm 65:11 (KJV)

God’s goodness surrounds every season of our lives. Even when we cannot see the full picture, our Father already knows the end from the beginning.

Just as a child trusts the wisdom of a loving parent, we can trust the perfect wisdom of God.

He knows the storms before they come.
He prepares the provision before the need appears.
He hears the prayer before it leaves our lips.

Our Father truly knows best.

So today we can rest in this truth:

The God who holds the mountains steady…
The God who quiets the oceans…
The God who sends the rain and brings the harvest…

Is the same Father who lovingly cares for you.
