As I Used To

I don’t do things as good as I used to,
The days move different, the lines are blurred.
I don’t hear the whispers like once I could,
And faces fade more than they should.

I don’t see the world with the same clear light,
The colors dim, the print’s too tight.
My memory plays a game of hide,
And sometimes leaves me mystified.

I walk much slower than I did before,
And pause at every creaky floor.
I take more breaks and rest more often,
But in those pauses, my soul has softened.

I’m slower now at most everything
At tying shoes or answering rings.
But though my hands may tremble some,
My heart is steady, my race still run.

And that’s okay, I’m not dismayed,
For in the quiet, I’ve often prayed.
And found a peace I never knew—
I’m closer to God than I ever grew.

So let the years fall soft and slow,
There’s grace in letting the old ways go.
For though I don’t do all I used to do,
I’m held by love that’s ever true.

2Co 4:16  The outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

After the Storm

Featured

It doesn’t rain unless there’s a storm,
The sky must darken, the winds transform.
Yet in the turmoil, drops descend,
To cleanse, to heal, and hearts to mend.

The thunder rolls, the night may cry,
But grace falls gently from the sky.
For rain, though born in tempest’s roar,
Brings life to roots and strength to soar.

Showers of blessing, strangely disguised,
Come wrapped in trials we never prized.
Yet through the pain and bitter strife,
They pour down hope and nourish life.

And when the storm has passed us by,
A hush will settle on the sky.
The sun breaks through, the world made new—
And peace will come, serene and true.

So let the clouds roll overhead,
Let faith be stronger than our dread.
For after storms, God’s love is shown,
And we are never left alone.

Psa 30:5  weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Daily Devotional: Our Father Knows Best
By Mark Waldrop

Scripture: Isaiah 48:17
"This is what the LORD says your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: 'I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.'"

Reflection:

Life often feels like a journey full of choices, paths, and uncertainties. We try to navigate through the twists and turns, sometimes unsure if we're heading in the right direction. It's easy to rely on our understanding or the wisdom of others, but there’s a greater guide available to us—our Heavenly Father.

In Isaiah 48:17, God reminds us that He is not only our Creator but also our Redeemer, the One who knows us intimately and has our best interests at heart. He promises to teach us what is best and to direct our steps. This is not just guidance; it’s a loving assurance that He knows the path we should take, even when we cannot see the way ahead.

Our Father doesn’t just leave us to figure things out on our own. He actively teaches and directs us, leading us away from harm and towards what will truly benefit us. When we trust in His wisdom and lean on His understanding, we find peace and security in the knowledge that He knows what’s best.

Today, let’s commit to seeking His guidance in every decision, big or small. Let us be humble enough to acknowledge that His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9). In doing so, we will walk confidently in the path He has laid out for us, assured that it is the best path.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my guide and teacher. Help me to trust in Your wisdom and to seek Your direction in all things. I surrender my plans and desires to You, knowing that You know what is best for me. Lead me in the way I should go, and give me the strength to follow Your guidance with faith and obedience. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Down and Out and the Up and Out

The Down and Out and the Up and Out
Inspired by Dad’s Words

My dad always said, with a squint in his eye,
“There’s the down and out, and the up and out, guy.”
Some have no shelter, no shoes on their feet,
Worn by the world and lost on the street.

But others wear suits with a polished disguise,
Yet emptiness hides behind well-dressed lies.
They dine at fine tables, they travel in style,
But deep in their soul, they’ve been lost for a while.

One cries for bread, the other for peace,
Both bound by a hunger that will not cease.
For riches or rags, the truth still remains—
A heart without hope bears invisible chains.

So reach for the fallen, and lift up the proud,
Share light with the lowly and speak love out loud.
For whether you’re down or you’re climbing about,
We all need grace to find our way out.

Daily Devotional: Our Father Knows Best
By Mark Waldrop

Scripture:
Joel 2:23-24
"Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before. The threshing floors will be filled with grain; the vats will overflow with new wine and oil."

Reflection:
In life, we often find ourselves in seasons of uncertainty, questioning the timing of events or the reasons behind the challenges we face. Yet, just as the earth depends on the autumn and spring rains, so too do we rely on God’s perfect timing and provision.

Joel 2:23-24 reminds us that our Father knows best. He understands when we need nourishment and refreshment, and He is faithful to provide in every season. The rains that come may not always arrive when we expect them, but they come when we need them most—nurturing the soil of our hearts and preparing us for an abundant harvest.

God’s blessings are not random; they are perfectly timed. When we trust in His faithfulness, we find that He not only meets our needs but often exceeds them, causing our threshing floors to be filled and our vats to overflow. The grain, wine, and oil in this passage symbolize sustenance, joy, and spiritual anointing—gifts that God eagerly pours out on His children.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and perfect timing. Help us to trust in Your provision, even when we cannot see the rain or understand the season we are in. May we rejoice in Your abundant blessings and remain patient, knowing that You always provide what we need, when we need it. Fill our hearts with gratitude and faith, as we lean on You for every step of our journey. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Thought for the Day:
Trust that God knows best. His timing is perfect, and His provision is abundant. Rejoice in the rains He sends, for they are preparing you for a harvest of blessings.

Prayer of the Four Winds

O Great Spirit in skies so wide,
Who walks with us, who walks beside,
Your voice is heard on winds that blow,
Your hands have shaped the earth below.

You paint the skies at break of day,
And guide the eagle on its way.
You give the deer its silent tread,
And mark the stars above our head.

Grant me wisdom, pure and true,
To see the world the way You do.
To walk in peace, to speak with grace,
To honor all in every place.

Let me not seek to rise above,
But serve with kindness, lead with love.
To heal the wrong, to make things right,
And walk with courage through the night.

When my last sunset paints the sky,
And soft winds call, and time draws nigh,
May I return to You once more,
To run with spirits gone before.

Daily Devotional: Our Father Knows Best
By MarkWaldrop

Scripture:
1 Corinthians 4:7
"For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?"

Reflection:
In this passage, Paul reminds us of a profound truth: everything we have, every blessing, every talent, every opportunity, comes from God. There is nothing we possess that was not first given to us by our Heavenly Father. This understanding humbles us and reminds us to live with gratitude, not pride.

We often fall into the trap of comparing ourselves with others, measuring our worth by worldly standards of success, intelligence, or beauty. But Paul asks a piercing question: "Who makes you different from anyone else?" The implication is clear—God is the one who has uniquely crafted each of us, bestowing upon us our specific gifts and circumstances.

When we recognize that our abilities and successes are not our own doing but are gifts from God, we are freed from the burden of pride and self-reliance. Instead, we can walk in humility, knowing that we are stewards of God’s blessings, called to use them for His glory and the good of others.

Boasting has no place in the life of a believer because it denies the very source of our blessings. True contentment and peace come when we acknowledge that our Father knows best, that He has given us exactly what we need, and that we are called to trust Him with the outcomes.

Prayer:
Father, we thank You for every good and perfect gift that comes from You. Help us to remember that everything we have is from Your hand. May we live humbly, acknowledging that without You, we have nothing. Teach us to use our gifts to honor You and serve others, always giving You the glory. Amen.

Iron Sharpens Iron

As iron sharpens iron’s edge,
So grows the soul on wisdom’s ledge.
One heart to another, sparks may fly,
But truth is born when hearts don’t lie.

Through words that challenge, love that stands,
Through steady work of guiding hands,
We shape each other, side by side,
Refined by fire, not by pride.

Not every stroke is smooth or kind,
But strength is forged in heart and mind.
In friendship deep, in trials shared,
We grow more whole, more true, prepared.

So thank the ones who dare to stay,
Who speak the truth, then kneel and pray.
For in their love, we rise, we learn—
Like iron’s edge, it’s our turn to burn…

To burn away what keeps us small,
And help each other stand up tall.
For God designed us to be one—
Sharpened strong ‘til work is done.

Pro 27:17  As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Daily Devotional: Our Father Knows Best
By Mark Waldrop

Scripture:
2 Chronicles 7:14 - "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Reflection:
In a world filled with uncertainty and challenges, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and lost. Yet, in the midst of our struggles, our Heavenly Father offers a clear and profound path forward: humility, prayer, seeking His face, and turning away from sin. These are not just steps to a better life—they are the keys to true healing and restoration.

Our Father knows best what we need. He understands the burdens we carry, the fears that grip us, and the temptations that lead us astray. But He also knows the power of a humble heart, the strength of earnest prayer, and the transformation that comes when we truly seek Him.

When we humble ourselves before God, we acknowledge our dependence on Him. We recognize that we cannot navigate this life on our own. In prayer, we connect with His heart, pouring out our concerns and desires, trusting that He listens and cares deeply for us. Seeking His face is more than just asking for blessings; it’s a pursuit of His presence, a desire to know Him more intimately. And as we turn from our wicked ways, we align ourselves with His will, making room for His grace to flow into every area of our lives.

The promise is clear: if we do these things, God will hear us, forgive us, and heal our land. This healing isn't just for nations; it’s personal. He will heal our hearts, our relationships, and our lives.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your face and Your will. Forgive us for the times we have strayed from Your path. Help us to turn away from sin and to walk closely with You. We trust in Your promise to hear our prayers and to bring healing into our lives and our world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Day:
Our Father knows best. When we humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our ways, He promises to respond with grace, forgiveness, and healing. Trust in His wisdom and walk in His ways today.

A Prayer of Faith

      A Prayer of Faith

Dear God, I come with humbled heart,
A soul in need, a brand-new start.
I believe Your Son was sent for me,
To set me free, to make me see.

I ask forgiveness, full and true,
For every wrong, for all I do.
Wash me clean, make me whole,
Renew my spirit, claim my soul.

Come dwell within, O Lord, abide,
Walk beside me, be my guide.
With open heart, my life I give,
In Your great love, forever live.

Amen.
