The old Farmhouse

Painting by Spike O’Dell W4WGN Brentwood Tennessee
The old farmhouse didn’t seem much at the time.
I was just growing up. Paying most attention to mealtime.

Making memories was just a thing we did.
Just living life, having fun just being a kid.

Going to church every time the doors were swung open.
That’s where the Gospel of His word was spoken.

Memories of Christmases, from days gone by.
Today those memories bring a tear to my eye.

Now it’s my turn to do what my parents did.
Making loving memories with my kid.

Crystal Clear Water

There’s a River of water that flows through me
It’s Crystal Clear bringing LOVE and Humility

It fills me up with JESUS' warmth and LOVE
Guiding me every day with a hand from above

The further I go the more I see
How GODS HAND is guiding me

Thank you, LORD, for sending this everlasting love
Flowing through the Crystal Clear River from above

  Joy

I had an old boxer named Joy
I loved to feed her
And watch her play with her toy

We would run and play
And be exhausted
At the end of the day

She loved to sleep beside my bed
I felt protected
From toe to head

We both grew older
She could no longer stand

I had to let her go
To be in God’s hand

Lard

Have you ever lived on a farm and rendered lard
It’s a hot messy job that's done in the yard

First comes the fire, then the cast iron kettle
Throw in the fat right in the dab gum middle

Skim off that old lard and let it get hard
Remove the cracklings do not discard

Take the lard inside and give to your Grannie
She’s gona make some hoe cakes for sweet little Annie

Annie gona jump up and run all around
She’s gona skip to the Holler shoutin Hoe Cakes y’all come on down

Hanging On

Do you find yourself hanging on by a thread
For the most part, do you feel about half dead

Look in the mirror and what do you see
Look at yourself and what is ahead for me

In great despair with a frown on your face
Is there any hope for happiness in any place

The answer is not far away from you
It’s helping others instead of helping you

Little Sparrow

Painting by Spike O’Dell W4WGN Brentwood Tennessee
I’m a little sparrow
His eye is always on me

I can’t read
But that’s what they tell me

I know it’s true what they say
I can feel him around me every day

I feed my children in the nest
I feel so very blest

One day when my children leave the nest
They will do their very best

His eye will be on them all the day
He will watch over them the entire way

I know this to be true
Because HE Watches over Me and You

Fish

Feed all the people a wonderful meal
Then to be self-sufficient we should feel

Having a meal without toil we desire
Our existence requires something higher

To sustain life we need more than a meal
We need a burning desire in our lives to feel

Spreading of the WORD Is our Goal in Life
Not to succumb to the mountains of strife
