I Cannot Boast
by Mark C. Waldrop
How could I boast of anything
I’ve ever seen or done?
Each breath I take, each step I make,
Is grace from Heaven’s Son.
How could I dare to claim as mine
The victories God has won?
The battle’s cry, the lifted sword,
Belonged to Christ alone.
Not in my strength, not by my hand,
Did mountains ever move—
But by His mercy guiding me,
And endless, patient love.
The praises that the world may sing,
They rightly should be His.
For I am but a vessel here
To show how great God is.
So let me live in grateful awe,
Not seeking worldly fame.
And may my every word and deed
Exalt His Holy Name.
1Co 1:31 so that, as it is written, R23 “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
For God’s Honor and Glory
