Daily Devotional: Our Father Knows Best
By Mark Waldrop
1 Corinthians 9:27 – “But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”
Paul speaks in this verse about the importance of self-discipline and the commitment required to live a life worthy of our calling. Just as an athlete trains rigorously to compete, we, too, must practice self-control and discipline in our spiritual lives. It’s not enough to simply know or preach the Word; we must live it out daily.
Our Father knows the challenges we face in maintaining this discipline. Whether it’s controlling our thoughts, actions, or habits, we often struggle to keep ourselves in check. But God has given us the tools to do so—His Spirit lives within us, empowering us to walk in obedience.
Discipline is not meant to be a burden but a blessing. It strengthens our faith, deepens our relationship with God, and ensures that we are living in a way that honors Him. When we align our lives with His will, we not only avoid disqualification but also become effective witnesses to others.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to discipline my heart, mind, and body according to Your will. Strengthen me to live out what I believe and to be a witness of Your grace. Thank You for the gift of Your Spirit, who helps me walk in self-control and faithfulness. Amen.
