Daily Devotional: Our Father Knows Best
By Mark Waldrop

John 18:36 – “Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.’”

Jesus’ words in John 18:36 remind us of a powerful truth: God’s ways are different from the ways of the world. When Jesus faced arrest, He didn’t call for a physical fight or an earthly defense. Instead, He pointed to a higher reality—His kingdom was not of this world. His mission and purpose went far beyond the temporary struggles of earthly life.

Our Father knows best. He knows that we are often tempted to get caught up in the battles and challenges of this world, to fight for our own control or comfort. Yet, Jesus teaches us that His kingdom, and our ultimate hope, is not rooted in worldly power or possessions. It’s in something far greater—a kingdom of peace, love, and eternal life.

Today, consider where your focus lies. Are you striving for temporary victories, or are you seeking first God’s eternal kingdom? Trust that He knows what’s best for you, even when things don’t go according to your plans. Jesus’ calm assurance in the face of trial shows us that God is in control, and His kingdom will prevail.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for reminding me that Your kingdom is eternal and not of this world. Help me to trust in Your wisdom and plan, even when life feels uncertain. Give me the faith to seek Your kingdom first, knowing that You know what’s best for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
