Daily Devotional: Our Father Knows Best

Scripture:
"When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns, the people assembled together as one in Jerusalem. Then Joshua son of Jozadak and his fellow priests and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his associates began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. Despite their fear of the peoples around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD, both the morning and evening sacrifices. Then in accordance with what is written, they celebrated the Festival of Tabernacles with the required number of burnt offerings prescribed for each day. After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings, the New Moon sacrifices and the sacrifices for all the appointed sacred festivals of the LORD, as well as those brought as freewill offerings to the LORD. On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, though the foundation of the LORD's temple had not yet been laid."

Reflection:
As the Israelites returned to their homeland after years of exile, they faced the daunting task of rebuilding their lives and their temple. Despite the fear and uncertainty surrounding them, their first action was to come together as one and rebuild the altar of the God of Israel. They prioritized worship and obedience to God’s commandments even before the foundation of the temple was laid.

This passage illustrates the profound truth that our Father knows best. He knows the importance of establishing our lives on a foundation of worship and obedience. The Israelites understood that before any physical rebuilding, their spiritual foundation needed to be restored. They trusted in God’s guidance and provisions, even amid potential threats from the surrounding peoples.

Today, we may find ourselves in situations where rebuilding or starting anew seems overwhelming. There might be fears and uncertainties about the future. However, just as the Israelites did, we can take a step of faith, knowing that our Father’s wisdom surpasses our understanding. He calls us to prioritize our relationship with Him, to worship and seek His guidance first and foremost.

By trusting in God and following His commands, we align ourselves with His perfect plan. He knows the best path for us, even when we cannot see it. As we build our lives on the foundation of His word and worship, we can find peace and assurance in His presence, knowing that He will guide us through every challenge.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of the Israelites who prioritized worship and obedience amidst their challenges. Help us to trust in Your wisdom and to build our lives on the foundation of Your word. Strengthen our faith to overcome our fears and uncertainties, knowing that You know what is best for us. Guide us in every step we take, and may our lives be a testament to Your glory. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
