Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Reflection:
In the Beatitudes, Jesus begins with a profound and paradoxical statement: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." To be "poor in spirit" means to recognize our own spiritual poverty and our need for God's grace. It is an acknowledgment that, without God, we are spiritually bankrupt and in need of His mercy and guidance.

Our Father knows that true blessedness comes not from self-sufficiency or pride, but from a humble and contrite heart that seeks Him. When we come to God with a spirit of humility, admitting our weaknesses and dependence on Him, we open ourselves to His abundant grace and the richness of His kingdom.

Reflection:
In the quiet moments of our lives, when we feel a deep longing within our hearts, we can be reminded of the imagery in Psalm 42:1. Just as a deer desperately seeks out streams of water to quench its thirst, our souls yearn for the presence of God. This thirst is not for something fleeting, but for the eternal and fulfilling presence of our Creator.

Our Father knows the deepest desires of our hearts. He understands our need for His love, guidance, and comfort. Often, we may find ourselves chasing after the temporary pleasures of this world, thinking they will satisfy us. However, true contentment comes only from a relationship with God.
