They told me, with a tone so slight, "That my house, it holds a scent," Smells like dog, they claimed outright, And I pondered what they meant. "Do they know what a dog smells like?" A query to their claim, A dog smells like the dawn's first light, A spirit you can't tame. Gratitude, in every wagging tail, Loyalty, in eyes so bright, Nobility, in their silent hail, Honey, in their cuddles tight. Pure and Unconditional Love, In every leap and joyful shove, And despite all they have suffered, They don't smell a grudge, it's buffered. So, I stand, with heart so touched, In their presence, I feel blessed, My house smells like dog, so much, And in that scent, I find my rest. For in their essence, I see truth, A lesson in their every move, My home's fragrance, a living proof, Of love, in its purest groove. So let them say, what they will, About the scent, my home does fill, For if it smells like dog, I'm glad, It's the best scent, one could ever have. March 2, 2024 Created by MarkWaldrop
